Tiger Woods has committed to play in THE PLAYERS Championship at TPC Sawgrass (THE PLAYERS Course) in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., next week. Tiger won the event in 2001 and was runner-up in 2000.
Woods has struggled in the tournament the last three years, tying for 40th in 2012 and withdrawing due to injuries in 2010 and 2011. In 2009, he finished eighth.
However, Tiger is having a terrific 2013 PGA TOUR season. In six starts, he has produced three wins and four Top 10s, and has regained No. 1 in the Official World Golf Ranking. Woods ranks first in FedExCup points and leads the circuit in earnings with more than $4.1 million.
Much of Tiger's strong play can be attributed to his putting. He ranks first on the PGA TOUR in strokes gained putting (1.476), and his scoring average of 68.545 is nearly a stroke lower than that of second-place Sergio Garcia (69.405).
