SAN MARTIN, Calif. -- Tiger Woods returns to competition on the PGA Tour this week in the Frys.com Open at CordeValle Golf Club near San Jose. Woods, who hasn't played in an official event since the PGA Championship in August, will be making his ninth start of the year and his first appearance in the fall tournament.
Woods arrived in the area Tuesday and was scheduled to play The Institute, an exclusive private course owned by tournament sponsor John Fry. Woods will play in the pro-am Wednesday morning and then will meet the media afterward.
First-round play begins Thursday, when Woods starts on the first tee at 3:10 p.m. ET with Louis Oosthuizen and amateur Patrick Cantlay of UCLA. On Friday, the trio starts on the 10th tee at 10:40 a.m. ET.
"I'm excited to be back," said Woods, who shot a course-record 10-under-par 62 last Saturday at the Greg Norman-designed Medalist Club -- his new home course -- in Jupiter, Fla. "I've had good practice sessions at home and am eager to get back under the gun."
All four rounds will be televised on the Golf Channel.
