Tiger captured his seventh Bridgestone title by four strokes last year.
ORLANDO, Fla. -- Top-ranked Tiger Woods has committed to play in next week's World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio, he announced Wednesday.
"It's one of the best courses we play all year," Woods said. "Everything is right in front of you."
Woods carded a pair of 5-under-par 65s on the weekend last year to win by four strokes over Robert Allenby and Padraig Harrington. He became the first player in PGA Tour and European Tour history to claim the same stroke-play tournament seven times on the same course. Only Sam Snead has more victories in a single event, winning in Greensboro, N.C., eight times, but he accomplished the feat on different courses.
The triumph by Woods was his 70th on the PGA Tour, lifting him within three of tying Jack Nicklaus (73) for the second-most career wins. Woods' last PGA Tour victory in 2009 was at the BMW Championship, and he now has 71 PGA Tour titles. Snead is the all-time leader with 82.
Woods previously won at Firestone in 1999, 2000-01 and 2005-07.
