Y.E. Yang has a two-stroke lead at the Chevron World Challenge.
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. -- Y.E. Yang of South Korea overcame flu-like symptoms to fire a bogey-free 7-under-65 Friday to secure a two-stroke advantage after two rounds of the $5.75 million Chevron World Challenge at sun-baked Sherwood Country Club.
Yang, winner of the PGA Championship, has a 36-hole score of 9-under 135. He hit 11 of 13 fairways and 15 of 18 greens in regulation and needed only 26 putts, five fewer than the first round. Yang eagled the par-5 second hole.
Kenny Perry (65), Padraig Harrington (68) and Ian Poulter (69) lurk two strokes back at 137. Perry, who turns 50 in August, is wearing new Transition glasses this week.
Sean O'Hair (67), Lee Westwood (67) and Zach Johnson (70) are tied for fifth at 138.
Proceeds of the tournament benefit the Tiger Woods Foundation.
